I'm not really sure I can add anything, but I'm devastated by this. His music is on constant rotation on my ipod and a few tracks are on my top 25 playlist. I'm just....in shock. Words can't express.

Peace out, bro.

Oliver Hart - Step By Step

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xz9OXdnS74

I got a little story to tell
See it was September 1st, 1999, the day of my death
My back was on the cold concrete as I take my last breath
Saw my body laying on the ground as my soul hovered above me
Damn Eyedea you was a good lookin' cat
But anyway another day at 18 years of age
Step in heaven's gate anxious to see what God got to say
Maybe he'll give me a gift for always saying my prayers
But he might send me downstairs for last year's love affair
Well who cares
You know right now it's all a mystery
I mean I'll find out when I get there
Until then I can't let it get to me
I'm keepin' my cool
Besides everybody dies
I'll just follow the white light like the do in the movies

It seems like I was went by and I'm still travelin
Right towards the brightness
Now this ain't heaven of hell
This realm is lifeless
And I hate to say it
But this wild goose chase had me bored
No directions, no clues, no idea what I was in for
But forward I kept floating
And then a quick flash the lights split directly in half
And created a forked path
Representing each side is an angel
Now whats the task I have to untangle to meet the big man in charge I ask
And one on the right of me says one of us always lies and one that always tells the truth
Ask the right one the right question he'll direct you to heaven
If ask the wrong one son, farwell you going straight to well....
Y'all get the picture

The one on my left told me not to listen to his fibs
He said it ain't that complicated to find out where god lives
He told me to follow his path
and tell god that he said hi
Then the one on my right jumped in and told me not to believe his lies
and I'm like Jesus Fucking Christ
I didn't care much for life
But I've tried to stay alive forever if I knew this is what death was like
I was never good at problem solving especially in emergencies
I get a tad bit nervous when concerned with burning for eternity
but anyway I asked them which one lied and they pointed at each other
Thinking I'd had it I asked the name of my mother
One said he don't know the other said he know but he can't tell me
God damn this is going to be hard

So I asked 30 questions and I still wasn't sure
but being me I gave those pricks a few good words
Frustrated with it all
I turned my back to the angels and when I walked away to my surprise
I found myself in heaven

(Ya know I'm saying
Kinda just turned around from the whole situation
Rejecting everything that was going on
Thats how I walked into heaven)

I Walked away, walked away, walked straight into heaven...
I Walked away, walked away, walked straight into heaven...

Shit, this is terrible. Saw him a few times in Denton and he was always a cool guy to talk w/ after the shows. This is a huge loss to the hiphop community.

Prayers go out to his family, friends, and fans. Very shocked right now.

He was one of those people I connected with instantly. The last time I saw him was in Fort Lauderdale, we were freestyling together and his lyrics were coming out so intense, and passionate, and morbid that I couldn't help but feel like something was terribly wrong and inexplicably amazing. His music and his personality always had a knack for easing any sort of sense of being alone I had.

Damn, to me, this is similar to when a good friend of mine died last summer and I had this overwhelming feeling of "Damn... He's back home now."

I found Eyedea by accident. I was into atmosphere, 7L, and Murs and was just looking for independent emcees that were telling stories. I found some long radio show clip with Slug, Eydea, Ali and a couple others. Love how he free styled and they did a song too,--I think. So I looked up Eyedea up. Boom! I heard Big Shots. I bought First Born at a local record store, that doesn't exist anymore, in Huntington Beach. Loved "One" and "Birth of a Fish" right away.

E&A was the first independent hip hop group that I turned a lot of my friends on to. Especially the E&A album.

He was the first emcee I was aware of that could battle, freestyle and do interesting songs, be funny while holding my interest for a whole album. Of course I know a lot more now.

Just called my friend who is a DJ and bedroom beat maker. He is crushed. He loves Eyedea. I never saw him perform. But my friend has like 6 times.

Too Young. He will be missed I am sure.

I was a slow comer to the new stuff. But I loved what he was going for and that he took those chances.

RIP.

I posted a thread about 4 hours ago, "What's up with Eyedea?"

I had been watching youtube and reliving my youth.

No Idea.

"So what's up with Eyedea nowadays?" was my thread.

I truly did not know.

RIP

So sad. Can't believe this. I remember his picture hanging in my room for quite a while from when he played here in Iceland.

He will not be forgotten.

Glad that you did. I was browsing on that thread this morning. I was wanting to hear some Eyedea for the past month. This is no coincidence posting that thread 4 hours ago... RIP Eyedea.

I met eyedea at the first scribble jam I went to in 2002, I think. Every year after that he remembered me and seemed appreciative to see me back. He was always one of the highlights of the weekend, especially performing with abilities, but also watching him interact with everybody...full of life, nobody was having more fun than him. The playful battle with murs while there was sound difficulties before the battles stands out in my mind...he was hilarious, and having a lot of fun. He gave me an on stage wrist band that year and I bought him a few beers.

I don't know what to say. We lost one of the brightest dudes I have ever met, I didn't know him personally, but he kinda made me feel like I did.

Rest in peace to a cool and humble kid on the mic. Always enjoyed his shows and his transformation as an artist.
