in the june issue of Hip Hop Connection magazine (with de la soul on the cover), there is a fairly weak review for the new lex records compilation on which sage appears..... the sage part says: "so here Sage Francis pops up only to add to the body of evidence that states he needs to appreciate the difference between playing with words and making songs. sure, he may construct a rhyme scheme that's oh-so-complex, but he's never going to make a song like Extra P".
just thought i'd share this wackness with you so you don't have to actually
bother wasting money on it.... sage gets nothing but poor reviews (apart from his live show) in that piece-of-shit magazine!...... the fools..... |

I started reading this magazine back in 1993. I stopped a good few years ago.
They did review 'Still Sick...' a while back, and actually gave it a very positive write up - I wonder if I still have that... But now they have their attentions in the wrong places and the quality has steadily declined. It's shame, they used to have a good team on that mag too. |

I can't imagine what their beef is with my appearance on that compilation. at ALL.
I mean...if you don't like the word play in Come Come Now then fine. Personally, I think it's one of my finest written pieces of work...over any of my "poems." But Garden Gnomes is so straight forward it hurts.

I think he says he acknowledges the dopeness in your writing (in a patronizing tone nontheless)...but he doesn't think it makes for a good song
in other words, he just doesn't like listening to it
everybody has their own standards for what makes a good song that they'll want to hear...this guy obviously thinks that dope lyrics aren't enough
it's still some dope shit to listen to...though I'm still breaking that shit down...you say some shit that seems to come out of nowhere for me...

Why you gotta diss garden gnomes like that? You're crazy to think that garden gnomes would give Sage Francis a bad review. NUTS! |
