ya the whole thing actually made me smile, thinking about all the moments in my life that could fit into a song like this.

I think that's why the line about wanting to kill yourself because of how big some things seem when you're young was my favourite moment.

yeah its great cause as you are growing up, these are all things that you REALLY believe

and its awesome how sage put them in a perspective from the child growing up, each stage of what we are thinking and believe how life is

evolution of thought

Yup.

definitely the best verse, to me.. the fact that the letters author, realistically is unidentifiable, with the code, no signature and the tape... and that followed by the "very mature" line. golden.

so I've been listening to this since the d/l was available.
then today it took me somewhere.
somewhere with tears.

currently riding the "never been THIS excited for another album" wagon.

I tried to look on google to see if anyone already asked so I'm sorry if this was answered already but any chance of an acapella from this record for us producers to take a shot at having fun with?

sometimes i listen to sage francis and i get all pumped up. sometimes i listen to the lyrics then i'm like, meh, no. then i peep this thread and read the lyrics then it's one of those fuzzy warm from the dryer sage odes that are like a sweet hot robe in a cold cold. one of them songs you cozy up to and love it.

it's great when sage is good.

My friend found this song very hard to listen to. Not by any means because it isn't good, but because it's so heartbreakingly sad to her. There are parts that she relates to to an uncomfortable extent, and parts that just reach her as being independently sad. I left it playing in her room once when I was showing her some music and had to go and do something for a minute, and when I came back and it was just finishing and tears were streaming down her face and she asked me "How could you just listen to this?"

It's something we've spoken about before... she has a degree in human rights (poli sci) and women's studies, so she's spent a lot of time exposing herself to things that are unpleasant to know and ponder. I like to think of myself as being pretty aware, too, but most of the difficult things I expose myself to are entirely elective, and that probably makes a difference. Heartbreaking art is cathartic for me, she (correctly) observes, but mostly just agonizing for her.

I can't entirely relate to not finding it worthwhile to experience great art that hurts, and she can't entirely relate to getting hurt on purpose for an aesthetic experience.

It's hard to have that kind of obstacle when you want to share the things that mean the most to you with someone else, but it would be irresponsible and inconsiderate to do so.
