Here's a great article from a Santa Cruz weekly paper that did an article on Tiersen. I'm admittedly still catching up on all that he does. He's clearly a phenom. I know someone who watched a performance of his the other night and she said he was shredding the violin. Like...playing so fast that the thing came apart and you could see smoke. The fuck? hahaa. Great mention, but funny that he states that you "basically just rap over it" haha. I think there is a bit more too what you do with the tracks than just "rap over them". Other than that, nice compliment and an amazing track thanks to the unique combination. |

tiersen has been putting out good work
for a minute; "amelie" is a treasure chest, but
he truly shines in "goodbye, lenin"
ms. compson & yours truly had a chance to see him
play when we were in alsace, the border between france
& germany, circa 2004ish, whilst he was "touring"
in & out of various bar/living room setups in town - but
because ms. compson's dad was battling a life threatening
illness & we had to stay by his bedside, we missed him :-( |

Haha yeah, but I'm giving him the benefit of doubt. What I think he was saying is that I didn't mess with his music. I didn't snatch a portion of his full arrangement and loop it nor did I add additional drums or anything else on top of his music. I kept it as is, maintained the integrity of his music, and worked my vocal parts around it. |

Understandable "mistake", especially when he hears that you left most of his music as it is. A lot of your songs sound as though there hasn't been "tinkered" with or anything, which is I guess a big compliment given how much you are involved in the music of the final version of a song. The vocals and the music always sound in harmony of each other, compared to other artists/songs which actually do sound like "rapper over a beat/music".

Isn't "kept it as is ... and worked my vocal parts around it" the same as "basically just rapped over it"?
I'm not trying to be snarky or anything. The lyrics/delivery are much better than his beat is. Just confused. |

The interview goes on with " “I think that Sage Francis does like this for all his tracks.". I don't know the ins and outs of the production process, but I know a hell of a lot more happens to the music that Sage get's before it is finalized. As in, he has a hand in how the final music sounds like and accompanies his words and vocals. |

Ohhh yeah I sort of read over the "he does this for all his tracks" part.
So what he said is true for this particular track but not true for all his songs. Got it. |

heard this just now at work and actually teared up.
this may be one of those rare tracks that i avoid listening to because it stirs up to many things for me.
but it is beyond beautiful.
