Hooker with a Penis (revisted, because it owns)  Reply with quote

I met a boy wearing Vans, 501s, & a Dope Beastie t, nipple rings, & new tattoos that claimed that he was OGT, back in '92, from the first EP. Inbetween sips of Coke he told me that he thought we were sellin' out, layin' down, suckin' up to the man. Well now I've got some advice for you, little buddy. Before you point the finger you should know that I'm the man. And if I'm the man, then you're the man, and he's the man as well so you can point that fuckin' finger up your ass. All you know about me is what I've sold you, dumb fuck. I sold out long before you ever heard my name. I sold my soul to make a record, dip shit, and you bought one.
All you read & wear or see & hear on TV is a product begging for your fatass dirty dollar. So...Shut up and buy my new record. Send more money.
Fuck you, buddy.

Indisputably a great album, and probably Tool's best.

I don't have the palette for Tool. It sounds like nu-metal to me.

Sometime in the 90's I saw a video performance of him whiling out on stage. Like...really weird, ferocious and out there. That won me over. And I think they have some truly amazing songs. I do not enjoy Circle at all, but I fucks with Tool.

Tool got a little too progressive for me somewhere along the line. But I still really like a lot of the songs of this CD and the two before it. I've just heard these songs so many times that I never think to revisit them. This song and the title track are really good though. I remember the last song being really good too.

Never really listened to anything after this one though. If I'm gonna listen to long ass progressive songs, it's gonna be Mars Volta these days.

"Fuck retro anything, fuck your tattoos." I liked that a lot when I was young lad.

But tool is weird music. The mood is just strange. It's like purgatory music or something.

I understand why Tool is considered nu-metal by a lot of people. But I don't think they are, really. Perhaps they sound like it to other people, but when I listen to Tool, I don't think of Slipknot or Korn.

The major difference is Maynard's vocals and lyrics.

If you want drums check out Dave Witte or Flo Mounier. Here's Flo solo, during a live Cryptopsy show:

That's quite a weird analogy.
