I am taking a wild guess here, but is Academy a popular name for clubs in the UK? Jeesh.
Good luck on the tour!! |

Scroobius Pip mentioned something on his Twitter updates about putting 'Police' in front of them for fun. I think that's the best way to deal with so many 'Academy'-heavy venues. I don't know why they didn't do that in the first place! |

ha! all the academy places are owned by the same company though aren't they(?) O2 buy out a venue and change the name to the generic * Academy (* insert city name here)..
but anyway, Portsmouth or Bristol.. One of those, I'm there. |

King Tuts Wah Wah Hut has definately got me more excited for that show than any venue name in recent history. |

haha, i just hope the venue and the crowd live up to the name now.
as long as you're not expecting walls adorned with hieroglyphics and secreted tombs everywhere then you should enjoy yourself.

Will probably be at Portsmouth, though possibly London or Oxford instead, still undecided on where it's easiest to travel to. |

Yeah, the Academy venues used to be owned by a company named Mean Fiddler, who also ran the Reading and Leeds fetival and have managed to get their corporate foot in the door and secure a share in Glastonbury. They essentially bought up the largest, often most cavernous and lacking in soul, venue in most large cities in England, Wales and Scotland and run them as a chain of venues with high ticket and drinks prices. O2 took over the sponsorship of the whole chain of venues last year, including the O2 Arena in London (formerly the ridiculous Millennium Dome). The one in Britol is a decent venue, with Academy 2, where this gis is happening, a smaller bar room upstairs from the main hall. The bar is small enough to produce a good atmsophere if there are anything upwards of 100 people, has a low ceiling and pretty small stage. Hope that's of some interest! |
