Yeah me too... I was just going to ask what that means. Never heard that phrase in my life, but I knew "coon" was a racist term from the time I was 6 or so. I think I saw it on an old cartoon and asked my mom or something... remember that for some reason.

i know, right? it's weird that no one ever mentions it. i just don't consider 'coon' as anything but cheese.

on another note, i only just found out that 'porch monkey' was a racial slur last year. i was using it as an affectionate term for jaws. i don't know where i heard it even.
i think i am a bit naive when it comes to these things.

"jaws" & "tron"? pure misnomers, surely

visually, neither is dangerous nor
gargantuan. unless, of course, you're of
the ironic name giving, dog owner specie

if so, you get a pass. unlike those toys. they
are certainly malicious & heavy in suggestion :(

Those are the kind of toys that come alive at night and kill...in blackface. How is the animosity against aborigines, Lants?

it's funny (odd) when people from other countries ask about the aboriginals here, because living in Melbourne i rarely see any. it's not like everyone here is white - very very far from it. we have people here from so many countries that it would be impossible to me to actually say what an Australian looks like.

when i see images of Australia represented by boomerangs & didgeridoos it's really odd because it's not a representation of what i see in Australia at all. i think it's really hypocritical when our govt gives these things as gifts to represent the country. there are so so many problems in the Australian indigenous community that just don't really get addressed at all. it's almost like they don't exist to people like me who live in the city. i don't really know what i am saying here - but the situation annoys me. it annoys me that if i saw an aboriginal Australian walk past me i'd be surprised. even more so if they were dressed well. but to see people from any number of other countries around the world would be normal.

So are there reservations set up similar to here in the States, or has the aboriginal population declined drastically? Or are they living more in or close to the Outback? I would imagine Australia as more of a melting pot anyway given the diversity of the rest of Oceania. I should study the whole area more.

australia has 7 states and 2 territories throughout these the aboriginal population varies quite a lot: from less than 1% in the south (melbourne-ish) to over 30% in the shitty mostly desert Northern Territory.

They don't have autonomous regions, or reservations, just disproportionately obscene rates of poverty, sickness and whatnot.

There is Native Title though, where in some cases the courts rule that some bits of land has remained in aboriginal 'ownership' since colonisation(kinda).
