PS children do not periodically flip out and rip chunks of flesh from your body, nor do they shit on the ground where i can step on it, or urinate publicly on my car, or bark all night because they are badly disciplined. children are FAR, FAR more innocuous than dogs. but i still love the little bastards.

i am in Thimphu, Bhutan. the dogs are everywhere. everywhere. there are so many of these fucking dogs. they fill the void of existence and unfathomable space. but they are well behaved because people throw rocks at them when they act out. perhaps we can learn something from the people of Bhutan, and next time a dog shakes itself near your picnic table, throw a rock at its face. we will all be better off for it. but these dogs, just lay around all day, and you think, "good dogs!" but then night falls, and the town becomes West Side Story for dogs. they fight in gangs, and another dog will come tearing down the street woofing, like, "oh yeah motherfuckers its on now!" and then they bark all night and eventually i kill all of them because i cannot sleep. maybe.

hahahahahahahaha.

same, only i'm in Hana.

jungle dogs of mixed pit-bull decent used to hunt pigs...

this thread is great stuff. i hate seeing dogs in the city. it's just awful; they always seem so miserable to me. i also think the reverence with which people treat their dogs is kind of anti-social; like people use them as a vessel for all the affection that they cant or dont express to people. and i say that as someone who use to be that. people who bring their dogs everywhere are idiots.

but at the same time, if im at a party or something and there's a dog, im more likely to talk to the dog than anyone else. so maybe im still guilty of that particular form of anti-social behavior. but i dont ever want to own a dog, at least not while i cant open the back door and let it run around in the woods. a friend of mine builds barns in western Mass and he's got this excellent dog that looks like a small fox; the things has eyes that can see through time, it just seems so wise to me. it spends most of its time running around while he builds barns, and it behaves perfectly at all times.

and stfu about kids being unnecessary or whatever. dont be obtuse.

This is the "I don't like 'dog people'" thread so as not to derail the NFL thread.
To recap: Dogs are no more important than pigs and nobody's trying to stop Oscar Meyer from being an NFL QB. Nor are people very concerned about factory farming.

Also, quit bringing your fucking dog everywhere. Everybody doesn't want to be around your dog. They are a public nuisance.

As far as the whole Michael Vick thing, cruel is cruel man. Factory farms are cruel too, but that doesn't make dog fighting any less terrible.

If they want to let Michael Vick play football, I don't give a shit. I wouldn't support him or his team though.

So... what about retarded children?
They'll contribute as much to society as dogs and cats.
Should we eat the mentally handicapped?
Or.. can we kill them and serve a light sentence?
Can we train them to fight each other?

Putting people on a higher level than animals is on some Old Testament shit.

When you stop putting people on a higher level than animals, why stop there? Next up is trees and rock formations.

It's about what you consider the ultimate good/destination to be. What level of macro do you want to take it to. If we're talking about universal or even global harmony as the end good, then the erf fucked up when the wee critters started forming out of the primordial goop.

I don't think it's so Old Testament as much as a natural hewing to the only real determiner of value in existence (as we can percieve it).
The purpose of the earth is to keep our brains, our little vital spark-piece alive. Because once that's gone the value system resets and Fido is about as important as a patch of the crab nebulla that smells like raspberries and a blade of grass could be the sun.
Which doesn't necessarily mean humans have to be dicks about it.
