listen sfr announcement, funcrusher is overrated and gave el-p to much of an ego...
It opened the door for a bunch of lame def jux records...

Now that...is an announcement.

Also I want to add...john cena is a better rapper than el-p.

I won't agree with that but i'll put it out there that El-P is probably a better wrestler than John Cena...

I won't call you an idiot...though I want to. It took a while for Funcrusher to grow on me. Now? Almost every track is the shit. Grimy is an understatement. As far as indie hip hop goes...there was what Project Blowed was doing first and foremost. Then this album and Overcast. Show respect. (The Legends were doing their thing too...yes, but they were less groundbreaking and more under the radar.)

"I don't try to be different, I am."

Before El-P could rap coherently, he was pushing beats into the future and lacing rambling, offbeat flows with vicious quotables.

Highlights on that record are Breezly Brewin on the Indelibles shit. And uh, am I crazy or are J-Treds' verses on Indelibles joints the only good shit he ever did in his career? I remember his 12"s sucking back then but loving him on The Fire In Which You Burn etc.

I will always love Funcrusher even if it isn't as impeccable as I thought it was at the time.

for me when i first heard that co-flow , rza had the strangest dopest grimy production ive ever heard for hip hop until i heard funcrusher plus

at the time i didnt really check for alot of "underground" i was just gettin into that phase, but who else around then had those type of beats that co-flow pulled off, anybody???anybody close ?

im seriously asking, i wanna know

when i first heard it i reallllly liked it alot but not as near as much as i like it now cause its gotten better and better and better with each listen, and thats what i enjoy the most about def jux and similiar artists

Trav fair enough if you don't like El-P as a rapper/producer/whatever, but you cannot deny what Funcrusher Plus did for underground hip-hop... I mean, that shit still sounds raw as fuck today, and it opened a lot of doors that I guess people didn't even realise were there before.

Most of you weren't even listening to hiphop when funcrusher came out...no one bought it...its not a "oh it changed underground!"

Stop.

So true

Out of 26 albums that Def Jux have put out there are 6-7 great albums but the rest is trash. They don't put out ok/good/bad albums, just great albums or trash.
