Oh hell yes, it just so happens I'll be in Vegas on that very date for a wedding. Looks like I'll be moonwalking out the reception a bit early.

I have no idea. But now that the show is over, and I saw you there, can you let me know what the deal was? Or did you never find out?

I must say, when I went to that venue I started feeling like it was going to be a disaster. It was a 20,000 seat venue for Christ sake. It is not what I expected at all, but it turned out better than I thought it would. Still, even though the crowd was cool and there was a good turn out, I was totally phased by the environment and my surroundings. I could NOT acclimate. I was not able to adjust and it affected my performance a lot. I really was not comfortable which is not normal.

Yeah, there was a strange vibe circulating throughout the place. Not bad, just different. But this started for me before I even left Sacramento. I freaked about the tix because I didn't want to pay $74 and then $120 for a room and $40 on gas. I called the local retailers and only one place answered, the other was just a busy signal. I called the Lawler and they said the box office closed at two. I literally told my girlfriend that if I didn't hear back by 2:30 then we'd go to the beach instead. I'm glad you got back to me because the show was great. Despite everything it turned out to be a near perfect weekend.

The incident that went on outside right before I saw you was a classic two wrongs don't make a right. We got there at about 7. My girl and I are enjoying a flat, overpriced beverage watching one of the earlier acts. We're standing on the floor and suddenly this drunk guy comes out of nowhere and kicks a trash can against the railing in front of the sound guys. It is a drunk scene. Security comes and apparently kicked him out. I thought they just told him to chill. So then we're outside and suddenly it looks like a fight right inside, loud yelling and body movement. My girlfriend and I kind of laugh and give the "hmmmm" face to each other. Then, suddenly it comes outside. We're still watching. Security tells the same guy that kicked the trash can that he was already kicked out and that he needs to leave. He gets all, "what the fuck are you going to do?" on the security guard. He is up in the guys face (security guy was massive). Like putting his finger a millimeter from the guy's face saying "you can't do shit can you, fuck you." Just kind of being a little bitch, but not touching him. This goes on for like four very slow minutes. Him just up in the security guy's grill, pestering him. Drunk. Obnoxious at this point. Then BAM! Security guy flips seriously grabs this guy buy the neck (who apparently has a permanently lame arm), like fucking I'm gonna choke you out. Then knees him in the nuts and just drops drunk guy. Other security come out and pull the guy off, while drunk guy's friend is all "what did you do?! His arm is paralyzed, he is defenseless." So security steps back, cops are called. The cops come, three deep. They take over. Two cops grab this guy (who is totally compliant at this point) and one is literally a foot away in front with the taser, ready to strike. Laser dot all up on his stomach. Then the cop says, "Hey Jeff, do you want to press charges?" Jeff is the security guard we find out, he says, "Yes, yes I do." My girlfriend and I are like what the fuck, drunk dude is fucked because the situation totally turned biased, not that it hadn't already, but now it was clear who was gonna get fucked in the deal. Then they took him away, but they did let his friend back in. It was ugly. Drunk guy had his glasses knocked off when Jeff choked and kneed him. It was sad to see. Very Reno-ish.

That's why when you came up I was joking about your fans being all crazy. But it was a lame situation, for everyone involved.

From an unbiased perspective my girlfriend thought that you, B. Dolan, 2mex, and Pep love were the best. She liked how you treated your words. Stopping the track when you missed up your line, because you wanted to make it clear what you were saying. Like you valued your words, you didn't laugh it off and let it slide. I forgot what track it was, but I think that is a legit thing to do. Kind of reset and finish acapella (sp?). I mean, I respect that. Yeah, that place was huge, it was interesting to see, but the crowd was decent. At first I was guessing low numbers, but by the end of the night it turned into a legit crowd. I can't estimate how many, but it was a fair turn-out for sure. Especially considering the size of the venue.

And I can't mention how stoked I am for Alex to be on SFR. I was talking to him after his set and for as many times as I've seen him live, I've never just bullshitted with him. He is the most down to earth dude. A lot of the cd's he had for sale had been out of print for ever. I was asking how he even had any and was talking about how when Tower closed their shops that they sent him back his unsold CDs. I was stoked. Also, his shirt he had was great, all the labels and crews....at the very bottom was Strange Famous. I don't want to fanboy on him too much, but I'm stoked for you guys.

It really turned into a perfect weekend. At the end of the night I went to the tables with my girl. Found a hundred bucks on the casino floor while playing roulette (moral discussion with my girlfriend on what to do, I kept it) and won 120 playing blackjack. Our room was only 70 bucks, we took the scenic route home. Loved it. And to think that we were about 20 mins from not going. It turned out great. here are some pics:

or maybe not. I do have some that the forum should see for sure. For example, the portrait they did of you, which in my opinion.....well, I'll save any comments for when I post it.

I live in Reno now and I didn't make it. I am a lame, lame, asshole. I even had the flyer from the Beechhut sitting right next to my desk and I totally spaced it.

I hear your pains about Lawler though. It really isn't a great venue. The GSR has a nice one, but I imagine you didn't have much say in the booking on this one.

Well, I'm glad you made money! I also left with some loot from the casino thanks to the black jack table.

I'm going to talk to the promoter of the event and see if Jeff the Security Guard actually did press charges. You and your girlfriend are witnesses to how Jeff assaulted the dude.

The line I flubbed was on Slow Down Gandhi. What happened there is I was phased early on in the set. Once I flub a line it is a total domino effect for the rest of the night. I flubbed a line on the very first song of my set (which is a brand new song) and it was a battle from there on out. I have nightmares about that kind of shit so it's a total psychological game. Other than that I had fun and I think 2Mex murdered his set.

I didn't dig this show either ...

Though I was paid for a full set, we showed up and they had somehow combined Sage & I's time into one 60 minute block. So, instead of the 25 minute set I had ready, I ended up doing 2 songs and the Evel Knievel ish and then introducing Sage..

I mean... I'm not gonna complain too much about being paid for a full set and only performing for about 15 minutes, but I left feeling like I had slighted anyone that showed up thinking they were really going to see me perform ... When I mentioned from stage that I had one more song I saw a couple kids in the front row going "What?!" and giving me the 'unfair' face. Which is maybe supposed to happen, but I took it to heart this time because I really did feel like my presence within the show was falsely advertised to a degree...

Also, and perhaps more importantly to a lot of the people there, the result was Sage's set being shorter than what he'd prepared...

But, beyond that, I enjoyed Sage & 2mex's sets, and think the vast majority of people there left feeling like they saw a good show... not one of my favorites though.

Reno was fun. We saw Bret Michaels in the casino. I would've left way up if not for a brutal river card that could not have been protected against.

I thought you doing a short set was odd. I figured they'd give you the same amount as the others. The pictures are uploading as we speak. I suck at camera work, especially in a dark venue with stage lights and a point and click.

And Sage, I, too, would be interested in knowing what came of that whole incident.

Picture of Sage done live. Klingon hair and all.

Me too. As you said, we don't get enough hiphop out here.

I also thought Dolan's short set was weird, but at least there's a reason. Or not really, why would you squeeze two acts together in one time slot? I still hate Lawlor as well, it's too big and empty, and Sage didn't bring hats.

'House of Bees' was awesome though, as was 'I Was Zero' (I think that's what it was called?). My non-hiphop listening friend enjoyed both of your sets as well. Unfortunately we missed 2mex because of her working late.

Thanks again for coming back to Reno!

This show was really dope.... and I think Sage you were outside talking on the phone in the underground parking garage when the cops came and got that crazy guy. I didn't see what happened inside but once the University Police showed up they had the red dot taser on the poor dude. Mind you he was asking for it but that was a mess. B. Dolan in doing the great leap over the monitor speaker was my fave because of the build up I thought he was going to bring out one of those mini bicycles like grand buffet or something....
