Wow. I'd like to know for sure why the kids are being taken. It's a tough area since you SHOULD be able to name your kid whatever you want, but isn't it sorta abuse if you KNOW that child will have a hard time living with that name? I'd like to know more.
I also like this piece of the article:

Am I the only one who thinks children should be removed for dumb names? The whole 'name your kid something crazy and unique' thing is spiraling out of control. If you name your kid apple, snickers, backpack, etc, you do not deserve to be their guardian. |

But yeah, for the state to take custody of a child just because of a (horrible) choice of names is way too extreme. |

Nahgied - the government shouldn't be able to take your kids because they don't like the name you chose for them. Period. Even if it's an AWFUL name.
I bet the family has been being followed since the recent cake incident, and they found a more substantial reason to remove the kids.

Offhand I would say that the decisions the parents made show a distinct lack of reason and caring for their kids. Enough to remove them? No. Not even enough to investigate them.
However, if a tip comes in that there is abuse the procedure is almost definitely to investigate, even if the tip is thought to be bogus. These people just made national news for their idiocy. It's a safe bet that one of their neighbors called DYFS (pronounced: die-fus) on them assuming that there was abuse. The kids were probably removed after a brief investigation showed that there are signs of possible abuse.
It's a huge leap to assume that DYFS goes around removing kids because of their names. |

We all have the freedom to be Christian or Anti-Semites or UFO hunters. If a kid was being bullied because his parents named him Jesus you get a totally different reaction. The issue isn't that his name is Adolf Hitler, it's that there are thousands of kids being raised in these crazy fucking households with perfectly normal names. |
