i heard this on cnn. the iraqi soldiers who light fire to the oil wells will be charged with crimes after the war is over. thats from the president. thats INSANE to charge iraqi soldiers with crimes after the war. from what i've gathered the iraqi generals will execute those who don't carry out orders. so now the iraqi soldiers have 2 choices. get shot or light the wells and live to see prison. how fucked up is that.

any thoughts on that are welcome

Think about it this way: if the fields weren't burning, we'd be burning that oil in our cars; and getting fatter and lazier. I'm just sorry that they couldn't have put a catalytic converter on the fields before they lit them up.

Oil is burned for tactical reasons... the haze hides troop movements, and I believe it affects laser missle-guidance systems.

ya they are burning oil just cuz of bush's speech, you know, when he told them to stop doing that. , in my opinion they should bomb the hell out of the oil fields so they cant even recover them.

yes it will have a worse effect.

Point 1) Iraqi people are killed daily under Saddams regime, war or not. It has been estimated that the death of 200,000 citizens alone can be attributed to him. In the long-run, this is the best decision.

We can be attributed to directly and indirectly killing over 500,000 children in Iraq.

We can also be attributed to poisoning the Iraqi people with DU weapons.
We also have been bombing Iraq constantly for the last 12 years.

I don't see how we are any better.

And seriously, don't act like you really care about the Iraqi people. No pro-war people gave a flying fuck about them until some right wing pundit used that as a pro-war argument. Then everyone jumped in on the "liberate Iraqis" and "its for the children" bandwagon. If you care so much about them, will you lend a helping hand when this is done?

Point 2) When Iraq is reconstructed, its economy will be based upon oil exports. A 25 billion dollar industry can easily support a small nation.

and then some....
Do you think we aren't going to profit from their oil? I guess that is why Halliburton won the bid to reconstruct Iraq right. Bunch of shit. This is a thiny veiled attempt to make a buck and gain some more power.

"C'mon man. It's all wrong, but let's not forget what's going on."

Statements like this make no sense to me and they are why most protesters today are getting laughed it. Vague, misguided, and blanketed statements that do not mean anything except, "seriously dude, you know whats up, whats really happening, he didn't really win ,all the ill shit, big brother, blood for oil, innocent blah blah blah" SAY SOMETHING THAT ACTUALLY MEANS SOMETHING.

What makes me laugh here, is that the only thing I hear you or any pro-war people saying, is the same re-hashed garbage that Rush and O'riely spew. Mostly vague, misguided, and blanketed as well. It seems to go both ways. At least the anti-war folk have their hearts in the right place...

If I were Saddam, I would light all the oil up. That is just me. And no, I've never really hard any pro-war folks make very compelling arguments for why we ought to be doing what we're doing at present. The best you get is an argument which can be extended to a variety of other folks in the world today, which prompt one to look for other motives. The best argument I've heard is that war will kill less people than sanctions, but then I think about the backlash which this action will generate in the region and I'm no longer buying in.
