I don't drink or use any drugs. I haven't for years(I'm 23 now). I never preach to anyone about anything, and never criticise people for choosing to drink or do drugs. All I ask is that people respect that I choose not to, just as I respect their choices.

But whenever I am at a party, people get real upset about me not drinking. It'll usually start with someone asking me if I want some liquor. When I say no, they ask why. I answer that I choose not to drink/do drugs. Then all of a sudden I got half the people at the party standing around me trying to get me to drink and dissing me for not drinking. Either I get the whole "holier than thou" shit thrown in my face, or I have people trying to peer pressure me into drinking/doing drugs. This is fucking wack. I don't show up to parties with a posse of non drinkers and harass people that choose to drink/do drugs. My girlfriend drinks(although she never gets drunk, and usually just has a drink or two), and sometimes she'll be invited to a party, and people'll be like "don't bring your boyfriend, he doesn't drink". I think it's funny how all the people that drink think it's just peachy choosing not to drink/do drugs and still go to parties/being social. Here in Sweden, you can't hardly go anywhere without there being drinking involved, and by not drinking, you are immediatly singled out as being "strange".

I have never ever gotten a "that's cool that you choose not to drink" comment. Except from people that have choosen not to drink themselves.

By now, whenever I'm at a party and people come up to me and offer me liquor, I just tell them that I'm a sober alcoholic. Then everybody's all cool with it and I don't have to spend the rest of the evening justifying my choice not to drink to everybody.

It's pretty fucked up.

You go to parties full of idiots, that's all.

Don't get me wrong, I've seen it happen - but it's the exception not the rule.

seriously? whenever i'm offered drugs/alcohol/cigarettes, and i tell people i don't smoke/drink/whatever , they're always cool with it. they realize i'm not trying to ruin whatever sort of good time they're having, that's it's my own personal decision. maybe you just hang out with a lame crowd... because it's just as lame to give people shit for not doing drugs as it is to give people shit for doing drugs.

also, i'm in HGH's boat... i've never called myself straightedge.. i just don't drink, smoke or do drugs. no need to brag, no need to label myself, it's just what i do.

Well it is true in both cases.

If I tell you that you SHOULD do drugs and you don't want to, then I should leave it at that and move on - lest I pigeonhole myself as a "dumbfuck".

If I tell you that you SHOULDN'T do drugs and you want to, then I should leave it at that and move on - lest I pigeonhole myself as a "dumbfuck".

It's not even bragging, in a technical sense. That would insinuate superiority over someone who does do drugs.

Not attacking you...it's just neurolinguistic programming. ;-) Call me bro...you gotta come over and watch me smoke weed again so we can play another game of chess. BOOOYA!

Peace,
Shane

i quit drugs/ alchohol about a year and a half ago. (i still smoke cigarettes).

i refuse to lecture and i prefer the company of drunk people.

at first, old friends would bust my balls to get me to get fucked up. new people have been cool, and when they haven't i've just regarded them as narrow minded and ignored them.

drunk girls seem to like a guy adamant about not drinking.

but... i stopped eating meat about 4 months ago. i get shit for this from everyone: friends, family, strangers.

i've never called myself vegeterian. i won't ever. fuck that label.

basically, you eat your veal and i'll smoke my cigarette. we all have vices.

and i fully realize this wasn't the point of shanes post.

life is my drug,
