the only thing I like more than reading lyrics is reading them along with the song. These lyrics are great.

me too
that's how i got so good at memorizing all of my favorite songs, esp from when i was a kid (and still know the words to this day, even the bad ones)

i'd sit with headphones on and follow along with the words until i memorized every track.

lots of albums no longer come with lyrics. sad.

Yeah, well...it's a cause and effect.
Lots of people no longer buy physical albums. Record stores are closing.
With the demand of physical albums going down, and the inability of a lot of groups (who normally would put lyrics in the CD booklet) being unable to have their albums distributed, there needs to be a safety measure they take on manufacturing product that may or may not sell. So costs need to stay low, and if that means paying $1.50 instead of $2.50 to manufacture the album, so be it. No lyric booklet.

I include the lyrics in my booklets, but it truly doesn't seem to matter much. I never ever get feedback on that.

that's so unfortunate, but you are right.

my little town had exactly ONE indie record store, and it closed last summer after being family owned and operated since the early 70s. it was heartbreaking. literally. the last night in business they threw a huge party and everyone was getting weepy and shit. my dad bought vinyl there when he was in his 20s and i bought vinyl there when i was in my 20s. it was truly the end of an era.

fuck, im sad again just thinking about it being closed.

i buy all of my music (cds) from online stores like SFR and RSE.

ps - i am grateful for your lyrics. that's how i found you. i was reading someone's blog years ago and they had some of your lyrics posted and i was like, "wow, i need to check this guy out"

Yeah I usually like that they are there, but I really only care about the commentary about the songs. I like the anecdotes and drawings more. Especially since a lot of the lyrics are available online anyways.

The only thing I use lyrics for is to quote artists quicker than pause play rewind etc.

This could be a good exercise in seeing what people think is being said.

I didn't know a lot of B's lyrics til he typed them out for me.

haha, you're right! i guess i dont know what he's saying there, all i hear is "automated ringmodulated bass, offset snare, 1/2 tempo synced delay." but im pretty sure i could recite the rest of the lyrics from memory.

I am always greatful when artists put the lyrics in the booklets. Besides that I love it, also gives greater value to owning a physical copy.

ha ha... ok.... here I go....this is going to be horrible...

Bernard:

leave saliva on the mic
and keep the disease moving
hip hop is not revolution
paraplegic b-boy
you breath noise
never give screams voice
but geek boys with hard looks
you learned in the comic books
hip hop is violent fantasy
any man could be a master among slaves
collect a wage or wage war
when the spark gets took
that's what the fuck you were payed for pimp
you'll beat the language
you'll do the same shit
revolution
you a liar every time you say bitch
you let the leash slip in secret
cold lips call you coward
for ever ever
stay asleep
rot together
on top of each other
or in separate beds
I bury heads up to their necks
tape their eyes open
let them watch the bombs drop into the ocean
till they lay bare like the desert
the so called world would lock its presence
call them
saying niggers and cave dwellers
but not the richest among us
we can't sell our skin to bring crops up
from the toxic dust
we live in shelters if we live at all
bleached sculls mock us
I man the radio dials
scan the air for dead men
it's quiet
like New York hip hop after nine eleven
it's quiet
like Eminem after Bush won re-election
quite like empty venues
you wanna battle me for this water
my mind's blank like the scorched earth
pray for the scorpion to come
end all thirst
when nothings left but the drastic waving images of nuclear physicists
with shaking fingertips in this dimness
in this winter
the space between letters
hoping I drop into oblivion
writing I'm trapped in between the lines I escape

It's all subtle mis direction
keep you eyes on the savior
lesser than greater than sleight of hand heart failure
h...heart failure h...h...heart failure h...heart failure h...h...heart

Sage:
Send for the medics
I bet it's a battle for health
the pelisi medicine never spin messages right(ha ha...whu?)
turn their message back on yourself
stackin your shelf with
rappers that are selfish shackled and helpless
settle the alchemist
smack the fabric out of felt tip ugh
my pen flips
it bursts like an infected appendix to evidence said that I just said it to stun
raw fed us on a death sentence that I sent to the sun
kickin a menace while he's down now this was how the west was won
celebrating all the raping and the pillaging of the villages
they're still in a military occupancy prison
listening to the minute men
of hip hop
they don't want to acknowledge the follies of following cowardly policies
american dreams turned lucid
remembering the scenes of a shooting on a peace movement
synaesthesia
I can see through your music
and I'll never except your deceptive records are clever
who could be that stupid
take a pop song over under ground artists who start strong
they fizzle out because their heart's gone
ya'll talk wrong
your language is a string of hateful lazy cliche` ridden gateways to racism
resist arrest
then you embrace the system
tell me with a straight face
a bitches place is in the kitchen
call me a faggot
slap five with the grand wizard
than act surprised because I can't get with it
I see a power in words
can't be all about flow
if it is I hope it's something your listeners out grow.....

oh boy... I know quite a bit of that is wrong...

here's my version, with the bold being the difference between dilly's interpretation and mine:

Bernard:

leave saliva on the mic
and keep the disease moving
hip hop is not revolution
paraplegic b-boy
you breath noise
never give screams voice
but keep poise with hard looks
you learned in the comic books
hip hop is violent fantasy

collect a wage or wage war
when the spark gets took
that's what the fuck you were payed for pimp
peep the language
you'll do the same shit
revolution
you a liar every time you say bitch
you let the leash slip in secret
cold lips call you coward
for ever ever
stay asleep
rot together
on top of each other
or in separate beds
I bury heads up to their necks
tape their eyes open
let them watch the bombs drop into the ocean
till they lay bare like deserts
the so called world would mock its presence
call them
sand niggers and cave dwellers
but now the richest among us
we can't sell our skin to bring crops up
from the toxic dust
we live in shelters if we live at all
bleached sculls mock us
I man the radio dials
