The Meaning of Life (seriously)  Reply with quote

Just recently stumbled across this web page called "FAQ On The Meaning of Life"... really fascinating stuff. I think this guy might just be onto something. Take a look and lemme know what you guys think -

he actually talks about that in there, heh.

Even more interesting, though... someone pointed out to him that 42 upside-down becomes roughly "2b" aka "to be"... coinkeedink? who knows. Great books though, Doug Adams was brilliant. RIP.

it'd be nice if humans found out all the things they can do with their own minds before making new ones

I've seen people move rocks, bend spoons and walk on water...laying in a bed of needles with a rock on their chests and somebody hitting that rock with a hammer...and come out completely unharmed

Our mind is more powerful than we even bother to think it is

Unfortunately the VAST majority of feats like those (if not all of them =\ ) are hoaxes. If you want, you can read up on how to do them yourself. Just a matter of illusion.

The eye is very gullible - what you must worry about is the mind following its lead.

I've actually seen them done in front of me in monk temples....and a friend of mind spent a year in one and he said the guys there can do all kinds of crazy shit...they meditate all day to expand their minds

Meditation is something else that shows you how powerful the mind is...

okokokokokok, I don't doubt that the mind can do some truly astonishing things. But let's get back on track. What do you think about what he has to say? I know it's a long read, but it's damn interesting stuff.

Even if your life is unhappy now, stick around for a few years

No matter how confused you are now, things should all be straightened out in a couple of decades

I found those 2 quotes hilarious

and to say that the meaning of humans is to make technological advances is asinine

what was the meaning of the caveman then? to evolve enough so he could make technological discoveries??

blah

he's not saying the meaning is to make technological advances... that's merely the INTERIM meaning. The true eventual meaning is to basically take our evolution to the next step by reaching the singularity. To become fully aware of the universe, in a sense. I don't fully agree that it's the true meaning, but it's definetely one of the best ones I've heard.

what he's really saying is that you should believe in him and either join his cause or help him fund it...and he does this blatantly

"4.5: Free Will" is particularly good. I've been thinking about those conundrums a lot, and reading that helped me clarify my thoughts a little.
