Joey Beats beat on personal journals  Reply with quote

I just got the personal journals record (I live in Sweden, shit is slow here) and when I listened to the last song(runaways) I almost shit my pants! The beat is dope! That's probably the best beat I've heard this year, by far. Good work Joe! I'm not trying to asskiss or nothing, I just think it's dope!

He shouldn't be using the "brown tone," though.

Thank you guys!!!

I guess this at least affords me the opportunity to speak on this beat. I remember the first time Sage recited the lyrics for me. As soon as he was finished I said "yo I would love to make the beat for that piece."

Last summer Sage came to the place I was staying and told me he needed the beat for Runaways. Long story short...I made this beat in like an hour with Sage right behind me, giving his input on everything. The same thing happened with the beat for Majority Rule. Actually majority rule is practically a Sage production, if you ask me.

I was so damn nervous about it because it came together so fast. Take my word for it, I don't usually make beats this quickly and the non-prophets instrumentals are no exception. Once I have all the samples, it doesn't take long. With Runaways though, I wasn't sure that was the perfect drum for that loop and I wasn't sure I got as many sequences out of it as I would've like to. Looking back on it now, those probably are the drums I would use. But Sage came through with all the ideas for the breakdown and stuff.

The amazing thing to me about that song is half way through, after the hi end breaks out, when the loop comes back in, it's almost like you're listening to the song from the beginning again. It has a new life. Sage does this extremely well...too good. So again, I was happ with the outcome.

Joe.

shit makes me depressed when i listen to it... i love it

beat fits the song perfectly, Joey

i honestly think my favorite Sage tracks are ones with Joey's beats... its a perfect combination

cant wait for the non-prophets LP

It only took you an hour to make that beat? That's insane! Me and a friend do beats and usually it takes us hours just to get the drums the way we want them..

Is there any chance of the non prophets record coming out anytime soon?

Dope beat, it's amazing that it was made in an hour… props to anticon for putting it on there, despite the hate.

AMBUSH - "Broken Wings" was produced by Scott Matelic, so I doubt either Joey Beats or Mr. Francis would know where that vocal sample came from.
