Eminem - Sing for The Moment... song of the year?  Reply with quote

In my opinion this is perhaps one of the best songs of this year so far, and definitely ranks among the best songs he has ever put out. Everything about this song, from the multi-syllabic rhymes, meaningful subject manner, sincere flow, and great sample make this song a great one. As a matter of fact, his whole third verse is a quoteable:

They say music can alter moods and talk to you
Well can it load a gun up for you and cock it too?
Well if it can, and the next time you assault a dude
Just tell the judge it was my fault, and I'll get sued
See what these kids do is hear about us totin pistols
and they want to get one cause, they think the shit's cool
Not knowin we really just protectin ourselves
We entertainers, of course the shit's affectin our sales
You ignoramus, but music is reflection of self
We just explain it, and then we get our checks in the mail
It's fucked up ain't it? How we can come from practically nothin
to bein able to have any fuckin thing that we wanted
That's why we, sing for these kids who don't have a thing
except for a dream and a fuckin rap magazine
Who post pin-up pictures on they walls all day long
Idolize they favorite rappers and know all they songs
Or for anyone who's ever been through shit in they lives
'Til they sit and they cry at night wishin they'd die
'Til they throw on a rap record and they sit and they vibe
We're nothin to you - but we're the fuckin shit in they eyes
That's why we, seize the moment try to freeze it and own it
Squeeze it and hold it, cause we consider these minutes golden
And maybe they'll admit it when we're gone, just let our spirits live on
through our lyrics that you hear in our songs and we can...

This is probably the best song on his new album.

Anyways, any of you have opinions about this particular song?

Just thought I'd throw out there that this song is weak. The only rap group that Aerosmith ever did anything cool with was Run DMC.

i think the anti-movement of the underground, to accept anything, no matter of its origins and aims - commercial or otherwise, is going a tad too far.

How many people honestly beleive Eminem to be profound? I dont care, as i dont with any hiphop artist, how well he hits the beat (im not even sure what that means!) or how good a battle emcee he is.
He is a dick, and i dont like what he stands for.

the first time i heard this piece of shit track, it made me feel so fucking mad.... i've loved aerosmith since i was a kid and had a 'rock' upbringing (!) so to hear possibly their best track used in such a terrible and pointless manner was sickening....

i like one track from his new album.... the rest is hella filler.... weak beats and such throwaway lyrics.... he hates his mom and boybands and his ex-bitch and yadda yadda yadda...... he's got the chance to speak some ill, worthwhile shit and he wastes it by being manly.... fuck him......

(he has got a killer flow though....haha....)

uhh...i couldnt even listen to that steaming load of disposable music... far as best song goes...its better than throwing it away on someone with absolutely no talent like ja rule...

...i did notice that he said hes using black music selflessly to get himself wealthy...and thats about as much as i can stand...

Infinite makes me laugh. It's rubbish. He knows it. I know it. Lots of people know it. The ones who don't think they're onto something special. They're not.

His Slim Shady EP had moments of absolute brilliance and originality.

I can't say much for his next couple albums because I stopped listening when he became a parody of himself.

As far as his new album, Square Dance is very catchy and fun. I also dig Cleaning out my Closet even though it urks me that he still can't get over his upbringing....or blaming mommy.

yeah I think Square Dance is still my favourite on the new record, too... I also like Til I Collapse because it is EXACTLY THE SAME SONG AS SQUARE DANCE only more hollery.

The single and Superman have some moments of BLAZING flow, even though the latter is in pretty questionable spirit.

Sing For The Moment has some very good parts. I was never an Aerosmith fan, so the only thing that bugs me about the production is that it's pretty weak to puff a whole song out of another song like that. I don't care about desecrating Dream On because I don't even know if I've ever heard it.

You can't tell me he isn't paying dues when he says "Two trailer park girls go 'round the outside"!

Also, I dig White America. I was hoping the whole album would be on a similar tip when I first heard it. It wasn't...but there were 3 or 4 songs that I liked a lot.

I think I may have overexaggerated with the song being one of the songs of the year, however I still think that there is no denying that that third verse is a quoteable in itself. Perhaps it can make a bid for verse of the year.

But I'm saying, the song may not be as catchy as the others, but I thought that it had the same role in the album as Stan did with his previous one. It pretty much played the conscious-and-meaningful-song type role on the album. I've come to notice that he is very formulaic with his albums.

Anyways, I see where most of you are coming from, but this song still stands out in its own right.

Yeah, it's probably the second best song on the cd, next to the single...

Cage and eminem, whats the you SAGE.  Reply with quote

Sage for the most part you dont like Ems right!? Yet you have said often you like CAGE. To me they are both very similiar. Cage talks crazy shit, raping, drugs, killing etc..and so does em. YET YOU RESPECT CAGE WHEN HE DOES IT, IM CONFUSED!?Have you ever met CAGE, IF SO YOU AND xAUL zAN COULD DO A SONG TOGETHER, IT BE DIRTY... and how come you like him but not em.Cage talks about drugs and killing in atleast once in every song. If cage was big, he would be gimmicky too.
