The Sage Francis Newsletter 11/14/02  Reply with quote

I haven't emailed this out yet...but I will.

This is the Sage Francis newsletter for 11/14/02.

DATES FOR MY EUROPEAN AND USA TOURS ARE LISTED AT THE BOTTOM

So much has happened in the past year that I can't even begin to explain my current situation. I am in a unique position, and I am grateful for it. Sorta. I don't know how much fuel I have left in my tank, but I have at least 3 more albums in me, a DVD in the works, a couple books simmering in the back of my head, and who knows what else will come about before I even get half of these things done. What I am really looking for is an excuse to relax and let someone else take over a bulk of the workload that has kept me away from friends, family and potential life-mates for so long. I need a personal assistant who operates off of fumes like I do. I need a label that is guaranteed to always look out for my best interests. I need furniture and heat in my apartment. Despite my whining, I am doing very well. I am happy to be unmarried without children. Lots of writing and recording is getting done amidst the traveling and performing. I just want more from life right now...and after working some serious demons out of my system I am trying to keep the ones waiting on deck at bay. As always, you can keep up to date on the Sage Francis soap opera at my website, WWW.NON-PROPHETS.COM ...a new proud feature of this website is Joe Beats' radio show "To the Break" so give it a listen and hear the mystery man speak as he laces you with vintage hiphop.

Personal Journals has sold well beyond most people's expectations. Right now it is pushing over 20,000. Being that it has recently been released in Europe, I expect figures to grow considerably. Thank you all for helping make this a successful record. The press and the feedback has been outstanding. This make makes Franky a happy boy.

Speaking of boys, I am 25 years old. And that's the truth. Here's the truth of my life: I love my Mom a lot and I am 25 years old.

Speaking of old, I am currently recording the Non-Prophets "HOPE" album. It will be released in a few months. I'm not going to bother hyping up the material on this project. Just know...it is going to make your baby sister's head collapse. Sleep now...reckanize lata.

Speaking of sleep, I am featured on an album called "Sleep No More" with Buck 65 and DJ Signify. Signify produced the whole album, Buck does 4 songs and I do 3 songs. This is a concept album with a very dark, murky feel. I am excited for this album to be available to the public. It's an honor to work with one of my current favorite emcees and close friends on a full album. My lyrics to the songs on this project are available at www.non-prophets.com

The Makeshift Patriot EP will be released on vinyl through anticon records in a couple months. It features 6 tracks, including the buzz-worthy "Hey, Bobby" spoken word piece. The lyrics to this piece are available at...you guess it... www.non-prophets.com

You can also find a new song of mine called "Garden Gnomes" produced by Danger Mouse on an upcoming 12" released by Lex Records out of the UK. This will be available in stores worldwide in a month or so.

After Personal Journals came out, I dropped The Known Unsoldier "Sick of Waging War" CD on my independent label, Strange Famous Records. It is the third installment of the Sick of Waiting CD Series. If you don't have a copy yet, I suggest you pick it up from www.hiphopinfinity.com (usually always in stock), www.sandboxautomatic (who also have XL t-shirts) or www.hiphopsite.com
The first two Sick of Waiting CDs have been discontinued and are currently unavailable. No one promised they would be around forever, Mom.

Joe Beats will be releasing his much anticipated instrumental CD "Reverse Discourse" within the next couple months. Final touches are being made to it right now.

NOW, IN TOURING NEWS:

I will be touring Europe from Nov 19 - Dec 16
I am traveling with nothing more than a backpack and CD player. Minimalism is the lesson of this tour.
Judging from my previous tours in the UK and Australia, this is going to be a great experience. It'll be nice to travel to distant parts of the world before WW3 locks us all into our high security cages. It's a mission of mine to learn as much as I can about each country I visit. Unfortunately I only speak English, but I will do my best to absorb each culture. A journal will be kept.
If you are within traveling distance to any of these spots, I beg of you to show up and check out a show. Please say hello if you get a chance. Here's the info:

There will be a couple updates made to this schedule so make sure you check for new info at www.non-prophets.com

When I get back from Europe I will have exactly one month to wrap up the Non-Prophets album while preparing for my February tour of the USA. This tour is to be called the "Live Band, Dead Poet" Tour.
I will be traveling with a 6 piece band, Gruvis Malt, through the month of February. We will be hitting up as many popular cities as we can. Gruvis will be opening up the show as well as backing me up during my set. Finally, I will be able to perform a lot of the AOI songs and lot of other obscure material that most people have never gotten to see live. I am looking forward to playing with a live band again...it opens up a lot of possibilities. Here are the TENTATIVE dates for the "Live Band Dead Poet" tour...updates and changes WILL be made, so make sure you hit up www.non-prophets.com in a month or so for the proper information:

keep in mind, cities and dates are still subject

Peace and take care of yourselves. We are living in some very turbulent times. Stay aware and don't scare yourselves out of a reasonable life. Go watch Michael Moore's "Bowling for Columbine" and consider moving to Canada. Love each other. Love me more. Group hug. Now fuck off.

:-)

I won't be around much for comments or questions but if you hit up www.non-prophets.com/forum I'm sure you can what you're looking for.

take care,
Sage Francisco

Sage, thanks for all the info. Looks like you're keeping busy... i'm glad that you're working on so many projects. 2003 will be a great year for hip hop.

I can't believe that you're releasing a song called Garden Gnomes. I just picked this nickname last week at random and didn't know about this song. How strange.

Hey I was wondering what the significance of "1968-2001" was?

Man, sometimes I see how much stupid shit like CDs go for on eBay and I think, "I gotta get in on this...I have THREE copies of this damn CD and it just sold for a million skillion dollars."

But I can't. I can't part with the music. This is not relevant to the above post.

DJdee, i was going to ask the same question about the date

Reggie, i know what you mean.. Those "sick of..." CDs are sometimes up to $20-$30 each and im like "shit, i should put those up".. but id rather just keep the original than sell it and have a CD-r

Sage, thats great that you finally came out of the closet about your age...haha... it doesnt really matter, but at least you dont have to hear it from people that you are 34 (if it was true, you would look too young for your age... but who knows... you've been known to "fib" to us before...) ha

This is dope = "Speaking of old, I am currently recording the Non-Prophets "HOPE" album. It will be released in a few months."

I wasnt expecting this for another year or so

"Keep up the good work" - Mr. Daniele

i knew it, i knew that being old stuff was bullshit because you said you heard fat boys in 4th grade, etc. and if you've been rapping since you were 8 it'd be hard to have been born that long ago without having invented rap yourself.

Sage,
as always you talk a lot and say nothing. We're looking for ACTUAL info. If you're going to take the time to write something why not be real with it?

You say that you have about 3 more albums in you. Then what? That's it for being a full time musician? I hope not. But understood anyway.
Peace,
Grizzleone

I was right all the long...call me obsessed but because of the lyrics to Time of My Life, "the year made me a dragon, the month made me a scorpio", I figured you were 25 and turning 26 this month. I feel so special now...wow I'm a freaking obsessed nerd.

I'm excited about all the releases. Have fun in Europe, Ljubljana and Banja Luka (are you playing there? I forget) are both kick ass cities. One of my old bands played their on tour and they were the best shows we had in Europe, kids go out of their minds for music. Even more importantly, they listen, even though their English might be real bad or non-existent, they try real hard to understand you and what to know what you're about. The greater interest in the political/social aspect of life in Europe has always made me want to move there.

I'm done. Have fun, I'm looking forward to seeing you in Eugene when you come out. I ran the cd player and vinyl for you in Ann Arbor the last time you were there if you don't remember....
