my lyrics from "Sleep No More"  Reply with quote

I spent many, many hours writing and rewriting this. Spent time and money recording it and re-recording it. Gave my name, talent and promotion value to an album that I never saw a dime from. So much for working with coke heads.

Download this album for free somewhere.

Here are my lyrics:

Lights flicker on the frame of a light sleeper...watching sports
In a stained wife beater and boxer shorts.
Night creeps in-between the uneven slides of venetian blinds
And it sees signs of struggle.

He resides in a jungle where the weeds dry and tumble
Every time he deserts love and leaves behind his troubles.
This time it seems he's finally humbled,
Defeated by the feline he's been trying to subdue. Beaten while they cuddle.

Now subtle differences got him running from images,
Weird as it is...circus mirrors are a serious fear of his.
He stays a safe distance from the scary kids.
His beard is big and he wears a wig in all public appearances.

Here he is...half alive in the flesh suit.
Curiously appetized by the fresh fruit
Served on a dish at his nightly help group.
Who dreamt of catching better Z's? Most people would've slept through it.

If you ain't been through it...then you don't know the way the days
just waste away. A change of pace needs to take place.
I play with razor blades and I shake
Until I shave my face and the break...

of daylights flicker on the frame of a light sleeper watching sports
In a stained wife beater and boxer shorts.
Sun rays creep in-between the uneven slides of venetian blinds
And it sees signs of struggle.

He hides a bundle of demons behind the stubble.
Sleep dehydrates him 'til the dreams dry and crumble.
Bleeding out of his eyes, the scene of the crime's a puddle,
Where he cries Uncle...and doesn't realize he's lovable.

Lover girl doesn't purr because she sees
Something of hers stuck in a world that needs to be freed.
This cat's got tongues tied 'til she leaves
A curiosity that could kill an entire species.

"See these fingers of mine?"
Yes.
"It's time to see if one of them fits the dark ring around your eyes," She says.
So she sends me to a guy who signs permission slips.
And if his finger fits...

He's going to poke inside to see what's alive. So I went to where she sent me only to find a blind man with worn down fingertips. And his neck was a library full of razor bumbs. He placed a cup on a tabled labeled "Talk to Me" and he snuck a smile passed the customs of his scruffy face. He just stared in my general direction and..........said,

"If you could know it all, would you want to?"
And I'm wondering if this is a question he poses everybody with.
I was warned about the gifts he's got and the kind of things he sees.
Who me? Yeah, I've got a few tricks up my sleeve...

But I was waiting for him to show his hand,
'Til I discovered the difference b/w an old mind and the mind of an old man.
So I stand corrected, sitting in my chair erect and attentive,
Wishing that he never asked that question

Because it echoes in my empty feelings, revealing what's underneath.
Each following sentence revealing a puzzle piece
To the jigsaw of this skin crawling coffee session.
It's something his kid saw in me that brought me to his attention.

He KNOWS this so who does he think he's speaking to?
It's not often that he emerges from his coffin of a reading room.
But on this special occasion he tests his relationship
With one who's never read much, but he's interested in spaceships.

His head's stuffed with ancient scripts, so he laughs.
Holds up his golden cup to toast the past.
"Here's to a lack of spontaneity the future has.
I could tell you when you're gonna' die...all you've gotta do is ask."

His eyes still weren't focusing.
He said, "I can see you've seen some things."
I said, "Yeah? well, thanks for noticing.
What gave it away...my poker limbs?"
Cross examined while my hands were busy closing things.

I've been to deserts that he's only read about in winter weather,
And I'm able to fill the gaps that act as traps in the limits of letters.
When mirrors open I bet he thinks I'll enter,
But I detect ulterior motives in his hidden agenda.

We live forever in these chairs comparing mental notes.
Bodies doubling as temporary captains of a rented boat.
My paper mate sent me to her folks in an envelope,
Disguised as insurance fraud; some things were never meant to float.

I've never been in a shipwreck, but I know they exist.
And the experience must be something close to this
Hopeless feeling that gets reeled in from oceans where emotions sink.
It's got me shaking his hand with an open fist.

What does he notice in my grasp besides the calluses?
A soul that's trapped by my mind's paralysis?
Knowing I'll ask him to sign the marriage slip
He says, "not so fast." And he goes to find his glasses.

This bastard put on lenses that were scratched like
Someone got the best of them in a cat fight.
That must have been when he developed the bad sight.
It doesn't help, he needs a helmet with a flashlight

If he thinks he can enter the darkness at half price
To find his daughter's black wedding dress from a past life.
Traditions died at our haunted house party last night.
Somebody send out for the body bag pipes.

I woke up with a tag between my toes and my feet were frozen.
I could feel me dreams decomposing and my nose was bleeding.
She was ghost, leaving me holding my rib.
She did it gently. I could tell by how carefully the sheets were folded.

Carefully. On this old bed that we hardly slept on.
She always kept calm when I said, "Go ahead, mommy...get gone."
I guess her get up and go must've got up and jetted.
Fuck it, forget it. There's nothing except for me and my cup of regrets.

Come into my love nest. A dungeon of fuck-fests.
Plunge into tunnels my tongue wets. Come and get some sex, kitty kitty.
Drink from the titty sink 'til you're drunk unless
You cry over spilled milk I suckled from the young breasts.

Hung less than juries, surely, don't upset the poet
Tapping random body parts like they're sturdy drumset components.
Certainly some bend and undress just to know what it's like
To touch success. They're unimpressed by sunsets at night.

I'm more than certain she hurts inside from all this shit.
Drawing the curtain, blurring the line before crossing it.
Calling it quits. A ball of shame is bouncing back and forth.
I'm sipping from the same container downing 6 ounces of backwash.

Doused with bath water, all consequences fade away.
Doubts are on back order. False confidence on layaway.
I bought a Providence apartment 'cuz of the way it detracts
Dangerous strangers and attracts the mangiest of stray cats.

But when I let her out the bag look what she dragged in.
An overpowering dad who never let her have things.
If this world was mine I swear to Mom I'd give it to baby girl but maybe,
If this girl was mine I'd give my Mom a world of babies.

Instead of murder cases, waiting for her to save me
From unconfirmed-age girls I've dated since the early 80's.
Flirting with Fate, because I heard she's the first lady referred to as crazy.
Cutting out the middle women...cutting out little children.

Sitting on a couch, sickened to my inflated stomach.
The baby in me is kicking...buckets...and I'm jaded from it.
Couldn't hold onto her...afraid of breaking something.
No longer knowing the difference between making love and hate fucking.

No longer knowing the difference between hate fucking and making love.
It's the difference between her virginity and experience with date-rape drugs.

Who am I to judge why you hide behind that make-up?
Look at me peeking out from Kool Aide-stained mugs.
Who are you to judge why I've got these sexual hang-ups?
I look at you look at me and we're in the same club.

it'll probably come out in 4 months.

DJ Signify produced the whole thing. It's very dark.

Buck 65 does 4 songs. I do three.

I am happy to be part of it.

It's all recorded.

I haven't read all of the lyrics all the way through, but my first reaction was some dark noir hardboiled lyrics...which was neat.
DAMN this will be a hot EP.

I would like to say, this isn't nearly as interesting to read as it is to listen to. I am impressed by ANYONE who can read through this and get much out of it.

thanks
