God  Reply with quote

I believe humans instinctively base their beliefs on evidence and what seems rational to them based on their experiences etc. I am a human. We are all humans. Everyone is brought up differently, in different surroundings. People who are brought up around Christians are more likely to grow up as Christians etc. I think before anybody decides on religion they should know as much about all the religions as possible. Even though that makes it sound like researching to buy a drum machine or something...
I personally believe their MUST be a GOD and that anything on that subject is entirely out of human comprehension.

I've said this before, but  Reply with quote

I don't believe in God. Nothing has come close to convincing me that religion is anything more than a tool people use to give themselves the belief that existence has a purpose. I believe that I will cease to exist (in that I will have no more thoughts) when I die. And I think this actually prepares me better for death than religion would, because rather than fearing that I won't please the gods and they will punish me upon death, I believe that the end result will be the same no matter who well or badly I live. I will cease to exist.

Having said all this - I am not absolutely certain of anything (other than Descarte's statement "Cogito, ego sum," beyond which everything is based on assumptions) and I myself agnostic rather than aetheist.

Most people who say "there must be a god" say so because they think it wouldn't be "fair" for everything we do to be ultimately pointless, but thinking existence should be fair doesn't make it so.

God.....damn.  Reply with quote

The fact that anything exists at all is proof that there was a 'first cause'. Whether it's intelligent life, or a natural occurence of something we can't comprehend seems to be the dilemna.

I think it's a bigger stretch to say there is no god, then to say that there is god. There are billions of stars and solar systems just like ours, with planets that rotate around their suns, and those solar systems in turn are constantly moving. Overall everything works like a well oiled machine. I think people who believe all of this existence has just occured by some chance chemical reaction are taking a bigger leap in faith than those of us who believe an intelligent being or beings created or possibly, 'thought up,' or existence.

Petrouka...if you need proof in existence of life after death, check out www.victorzammit.com . Or search the net for Fredrick Meyers' cross-correspondence experiments, at worst it will give you a new perspective.

Why do you assume that the universe had an initial "cause?" It's quite possible that it has always been around.

"Overall everything works like a well oiled machine."

For every solar system in existence, there have been many more *potential* solar systems that were destroyed by some other force. Is that amazing? Either I don't understand your point, or it's very weak. You seem to be saying "look.. there's all this STUFF. And I think this stuff is pretty fucking cool. So there must be thought behind it. And that's why God exists! This is fool-proof!!"
Ridiculous. Just like this "proof" of life after death. I do admit that I've read some interesting articles/studies on reincarnation, but I am far from convinced. More to the point - none of this stuff you wanted me to read is convincing.

"I think people who believe all of this existence has just occured by some chance chemical reaction are taking a bigger leap in faith than those of us who believe an intelligent being or beings created or possibly, 'thought up,' or existence."

Existence did not necessarily come from a chemical reaction. That's as unlikely as there being a God, in my skeptical opinion. My belief (though it's not unshakeable) is that the universe has always existed.

Freemasons believe in higher beings... and in many of their texts they give reference to the Bible..... Without sayin much, for the moment, what do You know about Freemasons? Our world ( in particular the U.S. ) is covered in Masonic Symbolism... What does that mean to You?.... Think about this carefully....
