I agree with her 100%
And it's sad that there are girls out there that enjoy these sexual innuendoes in the music then listen to. Well I shouldn’t even call them innuendoes because most rappers bluntly state what they expect from women. And the women that subject themselves to this make it worse for women like Heather to be respected. They just feed those rappers the fuel they need to keep going. I personally think that women can change it and women will change it. Women like heather will make a big difference in hip-hop. Big ups Heather. Keep movin. |

it's a double sided coin.
on one side i think its wack. everybody should be able to come to a show & feel safe/comfortable.
on the other side... females like some of the "degrading" stuff. they'll rush the floor in order to dance to it. |

Its really not that difficult. I personally don't get offended by chauvenistic comments. You really just have to have a sense of humor and laugh it off. I've been known to be more of a misogynist than a lot of men I know. I think that its partly our own (women) fault. I know of so many girls that use sex to manipulate men. What do they expect to happen?
I'm not saying that its right. But sometimes it *is* kind of funny. If rightfully so... you just have to consider yourself as not part of the "slut/whore" category. So really... they're not talking about YOU. |

1- historically, women treat other women much worse than men ever have.
2- just "laughing it off" is bad practice. |

Why is it bad practice?
They're not talking about ME. So why should I care? If a guy told ME directly to suck his dick... I wouldn't stand for that. But if its in a song... who cares? Its music. They should be able to say what they want.
Its the simple philosophy of "if you don't like it, don't listen" |

your logic hurts my head...
nowhere am i saying women have never helped each other.
also, i'm not justifying men's mistreatment of women.
and i think the women's suffrage movement of the 1800s and early 1900s would be a much better example of what i think you're trying to portray... that movement and sncc are the two things that still give me hope in today's global-societal mess, actually. |

Wait...what? I never said whatever about you thinking women didn't help each other...
And I know you aren't JUSTIFYING mistreatment.
My point is that women have certainly not been historically crueler to men than men have to women....glass ceiling, forced childbirth, etc. |

Hmmm.
The bottom line here is that the MC's will talk about their life experiences. If that doesn't include all these "hoes" and "bitches" that "suck them off" then they shouldn't be talking about the shit...and I have a problem with them lying (unless they're doing an out-of-character narrative or something of course).
BUT...to be mad at someone for talking about getting head? Shouldn't you be mad at the girls that degrade YOU by sucking off every rapper they meet? That's really the answer...if rappers heard "no" more, I'm sure they wouldn't go bragging knowing full well that their card WILL get pulled.
The thing is...the fact that the MC's are talking about this stuff is only a result of it actually happening. Before females can whine about being treated with respect, they should respect themselves. You don't suck rap-dick at the drop of a dime? Then he's obviously not talking to you anyway, so just take out of the music what you can...you learn that people behave this way....and you can change it the REAL why...not by not talking about it, but by making women aware of it.
So...here's the point of my post:
Telling an MC to not talk about women in a demeaning way is FAR less important than teaching young women to respect themselves in the first place...everything else will fall into place after that. That's obviously not to say it's the woman's FAULT, but sometimes you need to take responsibility for shit that isn't your fault - that's life.

Thats the point I was trying to get at, Messiah...
in not so many words.
These rappers aren't talking about women in general. They're talking about bitches and hoes... because those DO exist. |

They exist...
As one dimensional fantasies.
What woman is completely defined by the term "bitch" or "whore."
No men are defined completely by their sex habits....
Musical preference, maybe....wiggers. |

so you're saying women are responsible for their own oppression? wow. all this time i thought it was a male dominated society that relegated women to lesser roles. thanks for clearing everything up for me. though i not sure history is aware of shocking new revalation.
that said, we have something called free speech. it gives everyone the right to say whatever they desire. if some rapper wants to defame women and call them whores and bitches and talk about blow jobs, it's his right. it is also the right of the individual to choose to listen to or ignore that music. an individual also has the right to complain til their heart's content. |
