| whats yr scene like? |

i'm planning on travelling around and i want to know where i should go. or if i end up somewhere, where in that somewhere i should go.
where are all the hot record stores where yr from? best places to see a show? where the girls at? can i go to a bar where they play GOOD music (being 60s rock, underground hip hop, basically anything that is not top 40 pop or soft rock or country)? are there any places to go clothes shopping for cheap? indie movie houses/theatres? cool place to chill out and get a drink and a nice bite to eat ...etc...
i'm from boston, so i guess i'll offer up my information if anyone is curious
record stores: mars, looney tunes, phase four (cambridge, but close enough)
best places to see a show: Middle East, Tt the Bears
girls: damned if i know
bars: still looking, just recently hit the legal mark
shopping: there are some thrift stores on brighton ave that have the illest shit
movies: coolidge corner theatre, kendall, brattle, harvard film archive
places to get a drink/eat: the other side, burrito grande, anna's taqueria, gormet india
so let me know, if yr located in a city (american or otherwise). i want to go somewhere cool this summer... |

Also from the Boston area. To me, it seems that Boston is the hottest area for the underground scene right now. There's always shows to go to, with artists like 7L & Esoteric, Mr. Lif, Akrobatik, Insight, now Porn Theatre Ushers again, Reks, Skitzofreniks, Ripshop, and lots more. I don't really go to any other music stores other than Newbury Comics. I usually find what I need there. |

um, im probably going to need some help (emceeyi?) since im under21 and not hugely into hiphop:

Record Stores: Brave New World, any of the record exchanges for old/odd stuff
Best Places to See a Show: The Mr. Roboto Project (though not real good for hiphop, im sure sage can attest to that), Club Laga (as long as it isnt a joker show, fuck him), Shadow Lounge (? i dont know, ive never been there, but im pretty sure they do hiphop shows).
girls: yep, longtermrelationship means that i am the wrong person to ask, but probably the south side...
bars: underage, sorry.
shopping: eh, i hate shopping, but theres this Red, White, and Blue thrift shop out on rt 51 that everyone talks highly about.
movies: theres a place that plays artsy films in squirrel hill, manor theatre or something like that. cmu plays artsy films on thursdays when they are in session.
food: mad mex, la fiesta, cozumel, the O, baba di's, alibaba's, fuel and fuddle, craig st. coffee shop, del's |

if you stop in Philly, South Street is about all you need. Clothes-shopping like WHAT (some quite cheap, some not-so-much), record stores on every block (be sure to check out the side streets for 611 Records and the Jazz Exchange), great places to hang out and chill (stay away from anything between 4th and 2nd... its like frat parties for 30 year olds in some of those places)... Theatre of the Living Arts usually brings in great music artists... a lot more that I'm forgetting... shopping, the Gallery Mall on Market... King of Prussia Mall about 15/20 minutes outside Philly (the largest mall on the east coast, or one of the largest, something like that)... I'm not very social so I can't go in to detail much, but there's a lot of clubs off Market especially around 2nd street that are great. And still some OK spots on Delaware Ave. Also, check out an Arrakis Records show if they have one goin' on, great local artists. A few places outside Philly worth wandering around are places like Manyunk (places to hang out) and the Jersey Beach, which is about an hour and half or two hours from Philly (don't go for the beaches, go for the nightlife... like in Wildwood). |

See A Show: Harpos, Motor, Clutch Cargo, Royal Oak Music Theatre, State Theatre, St.Andrews Hall, Emerald Ballroom, Magic Stick, Majestik
Girls: Got one for myself, but there's always plenty of eye candy. Tight sweaters in the winter, tank tops in the summer.
Shopping: We've got Mr.Allens, Marshalls, Value City, Burlington Coat Factory and TJ Maxx.
Movies: Ann Arbor and Royal Oak both have indi theatres, plus the two dozen megaplexi.
Food: Tons of authentic Mexican joints downtown, tons of authentic Polish joint in Hamtramick, tons of Middle Eastern cuisines in Dearborn, plus hundreds of independant Coney Islands and Pizza places.. |

Are scene is weak most of the artists make the 45 min trip up to Cincinatti but we have some dope emcees Tadow, Cosmic Souls, G child, that about it there is a place todo show El diablos Illogic was there recently.
Record stores are pretty cool about stocking local stuff we got

What scene?Indianapolis' scene is non-existent.We went to Chicago a couple of weeks ago for the Atmosphere show and it was like 1,000,000 times better than ours.We have like two decent acts here...MudKids (Stray Records) and Fiti Futuristic (Graptree Recordings)...We got some weak acts though...One word for Sage, Origin@l.You remember battling that weak link? |

The Melburn scene is buildin pretty strong ( Australia in General is growin pretty strong ), There's pretty regular Hiphop Jams and heaps of Dope Graff to Check out ( apparently We're in top 10 Graff Scenes in the world )... Most of the peops are pretty cool down hear towards Hiphop Heads from overseas... You from Boston Ay? One of Good Mates Prowla, Did a track last Year With 7L and Eso called "Hittem Globally" It came out on His "Lone Wolf" LP, Prowla is an oldschool Hiphop ( graffer, Dj, Producer, and MC) pioneer of the Melburn Scene... Its mega inspirin to see Aus Heads doin collabs with Over seas Cats... It gives Me hope for the Future, I guess... But Yeah Back to the Question What's the Scene like? Growin Strong... The Music Industry down here sleeps on Aus Hiphop FULLSTOP, We dont Get much Airplay Appart from JJJ , PBS amd RRR, But for real Ya average cat in Aust doesnt even know We've got a Hiphop Scene... We Live, Breath and survive in the Underground... Slowly Makin our way to the Surface ay... But Like I said if Your ever in Melburn Mate, Peep Obese Records out at 4a Izett Street Prahran...

Halifax, Nova Scotia
record stores: for new releases, Revolution Records on Prince Street is the only game in town. Fortunately, their game is sharp. For digging, well, there's Taz on Argyle Street but they're not cheap. There's also Select Sounds out in Sunnyside but that's not really in the city. The honest truth is that the best spots to dig in Halifax are thrift shops and yard sales, and that's kinda personal.
best places to see a show: The Khyber Center for The Arts is the best-loved rap spot, not least for the free Ms. Pac-Man table. The Marquee Club is great for big name shows, but sometimes it can feel a little impersonal. Café Mokka Ultrabar was very nice until they came under new management, now I don't believe they act as a venue any longer. Basically though, just read the coast (free arts/issues weekly) and find out who's playing, and just go where the action is. Next weekend I'm seeing Buck at the Attic - a total pickup bar. Last time he played there he flipped his wig in anger on stage because no-one would listen to anything but The Centaur. Should be hot.
girls: same as everywhere - I can hardly breathe without choking on beautifil tits and midriffs around this time of year. it's not like there's a place in the world WITHOUT pretty girls.
bars: er, if you like dancing in a sardine tin in a simulation of sex with girls you don't know and can't talk to while they pour sticky drinks on you by accident, I guess the Argyle is decent. Lord knows I've enjoyed myself. I won't even go into the Palace... OH yeah, and there's Reflections! It's not exactly a gay bar, they call it "gay-friendly". I love their drag shows, except when six people lip synch Celine Dione in a row. Then I feel very, very straight.
shopping: you do not need to shop here. every place in the world has a broader selection of consumer goods. go there... like I do.
movies: We used to have Wormwood's Dog And Monkey Cinema, which is special to me for many reasons (indie films and Weirdo Magnet primarily... oh yes and big screen fansub anime afternoons) but er we don't have that anymore. Some time this month, a new rep cinema called Paradise is opening and I'm really, really excited for that. For the past few years, we've had only one theater (the Oxford) booking indie films at all, and they can't afford to do it very often or for very long. Still, in September we have a film festival that never fails to illuminate. We get excellent fare, both Canadian and International (the star of last year was, of course, Mulholland Drive)
places to get a drink/eat: I don't know man, I hate eating

uhm as far as hiphop scene goes we have a really small downtown area that all the kids drive around and blast ja rule, and if that's not hiphop enough for you, near drake university there are plenty of professional can recyclers that you could hang out with. stores...well, mostly everything we get out here we have to order off the internet because best buy blows sam goody and who the fuck buys music at target and stupid places like that....i would suggest going to like compton, or long beach, or watts, or strong island, or the boogie down, brooknam, you know the dillyo word.
