Sage's ugly mug in Spin Mag  Reply with quote

In the February 2004 issue of Spin Magazine, pages 70-72 feature an article entitled "EMO RAP" with a pic of Slug. More appropriately, on page 72, in a sub-section called "the sensitive types: who's who in the emo-rap revolution" there's a picture of Sage and others including Buck65 and Aesop Rock.

Just wanted to call attention to this publicity since rarely (yet more frequently as of late) these artists whom we appreciate are receiving their deserved recognition.

Respect the broccoli cock!

I like screamo-hop better. Emo-rap is just too mainstream for me.

Why do music journalists keep letting us down?

My boy Johnny Hardcore from Newfoundland (now living here in Halifax) was the subject of an article in local music magazine Soundcheck. They spun the whole thing into some kind of inspirational pap about how he raps without hesitation in spite of having a severe stutter when he speaks, which was bad enough, but do you know what they called the article on the front cover?

"White Rap From The Rock". Like... fuck, is this pigeonholing really neccessary? Avant anything is such a lazy thing to call something, it doesn't really describe anything.

Do you suppose the writer who called you "avant honky" would refer to Lee Fields as "retro coon"? I should hope not, but I doubt it in any event. For some reason, white Americans are TOTALLY OBSESSED with being white Americans.

It appears that if you are not talking about degrading women making money, rims and jewerly and street crime and prefer to make music about what really happens/has happened in your life that you are a very sensitive rapper.
