Quote:

"They're protecting an archaic industry," said the Grateful Dead's Bob Weir.
[...]
"Lawsuits on 12-year-old kids for downloading music, duping a mother into paying a $2,000 settlement for her kid?" said rapper Chuck D of Public Enemy. "Those scare tactics are pure Gestapo."
[...]
"File sharing is a reality, and it would seem that the labels would do well to learn how to incorporate it into their business models somehow," said genre- busting DJ Moby in a post on his Web site. "Record companies suing 12-year-old girls for file sharing is kind of like horse-and-buggy operators suing Henry Ford."
[...]
"For the artists, my ass," said Draiman.[of distrubed] "I didn't ask them to protect me, and I don't want their protection."

haha.

on the real though, is there any way for them to actually COLLECT this money? sounds to me like a lost cause...i mean, you can scare grandmothers of 12 year olds to pay up, but i doubt i actually would. not that i have a single song on my comp, but i wouldn't pay if they tried...

I had a niave hope that MP3s would revolutionize the record industry.

What the hell was I thinking?

The culture industry would never stand for that kind of shit.

Not only is this typical...

... it's legal.

Our legal system is FUCKED when it comes to copyright laws (as well as a bunch of other laws), and what's more FUCKED is that the people in power have no intention and/or desire to change the copyright laws.

The problem with capitalism is that it's all about capital.

Capital, baby.

Get that dough.

On the contrary, people in power are changing the copyright laws constantly. Especially since the internet came about.
