The SFR webstore began in 2000 with email exchanges. There wasn’t even a website. People would email Sage Francis asking for product and he would respond with a full list of what was available along with the prices and the address they should send cash too. It was “cash only” at first (which you can see explained in full detail on the “Life is Easy” DVD.) We don’t accept cash through the mail anymore, but we do accept paypal, credit cards and money orders. National and international shipping is available.
The webstore was developed in 2004, which is when we began carrying more items from artists whom we enjoy and respect. So now we sell SFR items as well as non-SFR items…as long as it passes the scrutiny of our staff. Grrrrr. We’ve built a trusting relationship with our customers and we try to sneak in a few extra goodies with each package to keep people coming back. It seems to be working. Since the webstore first opened, we’ve completed tens of thousands of mail orders. None of this could have been done without the extra help we receive from people in the SFR office, so all praise is due.
Having a direct exchange with our fans and supporters has been an essential in our survival as a label. It’s become more and more difficult for indie artists to get their material into stores, and a lot of the stores that would typically hold our product are shutting down. This is why we’ve put in the extra time and effort to prove ourselves as a trustworthy option.
